Flipping Through Pages

There's something so exciting and yet disturbing about the sound of a crisp, new book being hastily flipped through with a thumb on the edge of the pages and the fingers on the back cover. It can send shivers down my spine. The idea that so much knowledge, information, action, is contained within those tiny bursts of letters and words that we see, along with the the notion that we can see so much and retain next to nothing but a few meaningless refrains is odd and enticing.

We see so much but comprehend so little. We can see and hear it in front of us, but do not understand. It's mind boggling how that can happen. It's creepy because of the knowledge that is available, but only if we stop our fast pace and stop the pleasurable sounds and truly focus on what there is for us.
